Thelma Jones (Winkelman) - Class of 1940

Thelma Jones Winkleman was born on December16, 1922. She died on June 29, 2015 from compliations of a stroke. She was survived by her children. Claudia Winkleman Knaus and Alan Winkleman. Thelma attended college for one year in Pocatello then moved to Oakland, CA, in 1942. She and her good friend, Marge Winkelman served in the Coast Guard and she married Marge's brother, Harry George Winkelman, who was an Army Engineer in the European Theater, when he returned from the war. They had two children, Claudia and Alan. Thelma returned to the workforce in the early 1960s as a secretary at Western Waxide, a division of the Crown Zellerbach Company. She retired from her position of Personnel Manager in San Francisco in 1979. She and daughter, Claudia, attended yearly reunions of the Class of 1940 in Montpelier from 1990 to 2004. During those trips they met distant cousins, visited gravesites and played a lot of golf. She was widowed in 1999 and in 2010 she moved to an assisted living facility in Oroville, CA to be closer to Claudia and son-in-law, Fred Knaus. Her lively personality and wicked sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
