In Memory

Elaine Bridges (Passey) - Class of 1948

S. Elaine Passey was born on September 27, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Elva Moore and Wayne Ellis Steffensen. She passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024 in Lehi, Utah at the home of her daughter.

Elaine was raised in Montpelier Idaho, where she attended school and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1948. She served as Manager and Editor of the yearbook as well as Student-Body Secretary. During high school, she worked at the "Kit-Kat", a corner confectionary in Montpelier.

After High School, Elaine attended Weber State University in Ogden, Utah before returning to Montpelier to work as a hygienist for Dr. Donald Meek's Dental Office. She worked for Dr. Meek for over 20 years. In the early days, the dental office was located in downtown Montpelier, across from Tri-State Incorporated. This is where she met Gene Howell Passey, whom she married on September 5, 1950 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Gene and Elaine were blessed with three children and were always involved in their activities and other community events. They were both active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held many callings, and appreciated the opportunity to serve others.

Elaine enjoyed supporting Gene in his work at Tri-State and often went with him to buy giftware for the store. Later in life, they opened "Elaine's", a lady's dress shop in Montpelier. She delighted in going to the fashion shows at the dress market and choosing the latest fashion trends for her store.

Throughout the years, Elaine enjoyed clogging, bowling, golfing and taking care of her various furry friends. She loved attending the concerts and sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Another favorite was going to lunch on Wednesdays at Studebaker's Pizza with her very dear friends.

Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her mother, father, and stepfather, Winston Bridges. She is survived by her children: Kerry (Robin) Passey, Carole (Jack) Haney, and Stacy Passey; one sister, Nikki (Keith) Hiatt, and sisters-in-law, Myrna Tremelling Passey and Joan Hymas Passey; 16 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.

A family viewing will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main Lehi, UT at 4 pm., with a Memorial Service at 5 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the Montpelier, Idaho Cemetery on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. with interment to follow.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the many friends and neighbors, particularly DeVerl and Barbara King, and others who took her to lunch or cared for her in other ways. We appreciate the kindness shown to her
