Edward Sommers - Class of 1950 VIEW PROFILE

On January 1, 2023, our beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Edward Benjamin Sommers was found at home in his bed, where it was determined he had passed away a few days earlier. He was 90 years old, and still a kid at heart until the day of his passing.

Ed was born April 13, 1932, in Montpelier, Bear Lake, Idaho to Frederick Sommers and Hilda Josephine Roberts. He was the third of four children and adored by his family. He in turn felt the same about them. He attended Montpelier High School and was in the same class as his older brother. He had musical talents including singing and playing the trumpet and was a natural athlete. After graduating, Ed joined the Navy, where he served proudly for four years, mainly in the Norfolk Virginia and Key West areas. After his service, he attended college at Utah State University, and always wore the badge of being an "Aggie" with great pride.

He married Veon Wallentine, with whom he had two children (Cindy and Brad), and they later divorced. He had another marriage to Carol Naylor Lawrence, with whom he had one daughter (Kim), which also ended in divorce. His last marriage, and divorce, was to Alona Ercanbrack. Through the magic of DNA, Ed would find his good looks in the faces of three more children (Wayne, Melanie, and Jason). He and his other three children were overjoyed with the additions to the family.

Ed worked at Hercules Aerospace for many years, and then at Edo Corporation where he semi-retired. He continued to work at Central Valley Golf Course, which was a job he loved. Golf was a passion for him where he excelled and won numerous trophies. He was always up for any adventure and had a great sense of humor. His life was full of many friends, and he grieved the loss of several of those in his later years. He loved spending time with his family in Pocatello Idaho and cherished every memory he had with them.

Ed is survived by his six children; Cindy (Steve) Felt, Brad (Jana) Nate, Wayne (Stephanie) Fratto, Kimberly Sommers, Melanie (Spencer) Jones, Jason Miller; his siblings, Junior Fred Sommers, Marjean Moser; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and his four-legged grandkids. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene Hansen; brothers-in-law Dallas Hansen and Steve Moser; and sister-in-law, Carole Sommers.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 4760 S. State Street, Murray, Utah. Interment will take place on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 12 pm at Restlawn Cemetery, 2864 S 5th Ave, Pocatello, Idaho, where he will receive military funeral honors. Online condolences may be shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com.

The family would like to thank the Veterans Hospital for their loving care of Ed over the past several years. He was always so grateful for their excellent medical staff and concern for him.
