Theron Kunz - Class of 1932

Theron Alma Kunz succumbed to congestive heart failure February 24, 2009.He was born to Alma Alvin and Vivian Pope Kunz, November 21, 1914, in Bern, Idaho, the third of nine children (four boys and five girls) and the first son. He eloped with the love of his life Margaret Helen Bickel, May 24, 1936 in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. They were blessed with a daughter and a son. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1936 to 1976. In 1962, he was elected General Chairman of the western district for the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen head-quartered in Salt Lake City. When four national unions merged to form the United Transportation Union, Theron was selected to help form the constitution and bylaws in Hot Springs, Arkansas where a monument commemorates the historic event with his name on it. He and Helen traveled extensively visiting every state in the USA, and Canada, Mexico and Switzerland. Until bad health prevented his participation, he loved dancing, golf, hunting, gardening, the Utah Jazz and was an expert fisherman. He is preceded in death by his eight siblings. Theron is survived by his wife Helen of the home; daughter Peggy (James) Pappas, Norman, OK; son Gary (Beverly) Kunz, Preston, ID; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Tom) Smart, Norman, OK; Peter (Shelley) Pappas, Edmond, OK; Richard Kunz, Kalispell, MT; JoyAnn (Jesse) Bresina, West Valley City, UT; David (Robyn) Kunz, Salt Lake City, UT; sister-in-law Rosella Burr, Bakersfield, CA; and special nephew Patrick (Linda) Brimmer, Sandy, UT. He has 11 great-grand children and two great-great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 10 a.m., Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah 84092.
