Norton Nixon - Class of 1934

Norton Dean Nixon, 83, passed away on January 23, 2000.

He was born July 26, 1916 in Salt Lake to Robert Ray and Margaret Elizabeth Nixon. Married Julia Edith Jack on March 12, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.He spent his youth in Montpelier, Idaho where he enjoyed and excelled in all sports, especially track. He served an LDS mission to Brazil which began his lifelong love of the country and its people. He was educated at the University of Utah and served in the military. After retiring from the University of Utah as the Associate Director of Admissions, he fulfilled another mission to Brazil with his wife.

Norton was a lifelong, faithful member of the LDS Church serving in many capacities and was devoted to the scouting program. His example of service, friendly nature and sense of humor has influenced many.

He is survived by his wife, Julia; children, Elizabeth, Janet, Carol, Patricia, and Jack (Delsi); and brother, R. Paul (Joan). Preceded in death by parents; step-mother, Dora C. Nixon; and sister Mildred Hilton.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at 12 Noon in the LDS Yale First Ward Chapel, 1431 Gilmer Drive. Friends may call Tuesday, 6-7:30 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Wednesday from 11:00-11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
