In Memory

Carole Rasmussen (Young) - Class of 1937

Carole Rasmussen Young of Boise, Idaho was called home by our Heavenly Father on Nov. 1, 2006. Carole was born on Dec. 25, 1917, in Montpelier, Idaho to James Rasmussen and Mary Emma Barkdull. As the oldest daughter in a family of 12 children, she learned many skills in homemaking and caring for children. She graduated from high school in 1937 and worked that summer cooking for a road construction crew, which she said was "fun and a real experience." She met her husband-to-be, Silas John Young (Cy), that Fall and they were married at home on Dec. 31, 1937. They made their home in Pocatello, Idaho and Carole attended Cosmetology School so she could stay at home and care for her children. This she did, and operated a beauty shop for 22 years in her home. It helped them build a home and obtain college educations for their two children Jay and Deanna. She was thrilled to see them graduate from college and to have guided them into becoming such nice people. When Jay was 21 and Deanna was 13, Carole and Cy were sealed to each other and to their children for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1960. She remained active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities throughout her life, including serving a temple mission at the Boise Temple. After living in Pocatello for 31 years, she and Cy moved to Boise, Idaho. She loved Boise and always referred to it as the banana belt of Idaho. She touched many lives and won fast friends because of her intelligence, steady common sense, and sense of humor. She sweetly and tenderly cared for Cy for three years after he suffered a stroke. After his death in 1989, she remained in her home for 13 more years. The pride and pleasure she took in her family, plus her many friendships and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, were the driving forces in her life. Carole spent the last four years of her life in a retirement home in Provo, Utah where she was close to her daughter Deanna. She is survived by her two children, Jay of Wickenburg, Ariz. and his wife June Ann, and Deanna of Springville, Utah and her husband Steve Nyman; six grandchildren, Jocelyn Ives of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Jennifer Gubler of Alpine, Utah, Jonathan Young of Las Vegas, Nev., Michael Nyman of Mesa, Ariz., Roger Nyman of West Jordan, Utah, and David Nyman of Provo, Utah; and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in Boise, Idaho on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at noon at the Morris Hill Cemetery.
