Don L Pendrey, 29, seaman first class USNR, reported missing March 3, lost his life as a result of enemy action February 21, 1945, his wife, Mrs. Frankie Pendrey was informed Tuesday by the Chief of Naval Personnel.  When last heard from the young man was stationed on the carrier, Bismarck Sea.

"The Navy Department regrets," the telegram stated, "to inform you that a careful review of all facts available regarding the disappearance of your husband, previously reported missing, leads to the conclusion that there is no hope for his survival and that he lost his life as a result of enemy action on February 21, 1945 while in the service of his country.  If additional information is received it will be forwarded to you promptly.  Sincere sympathy is extended to you in your great sorrow."

Seaman Pendrey was born in Montpelier February 4, 1916 where he grew to manhood attending the grade schools and graduating from Montpelier high school with the class of 1937. Before entering the service on November 21, 1943, he was employed at Hill Field Utah. Surviving are his widow, Frankie Lee Sunderland Pendrey, and two year old son, Michael Don Pendrey, his mother Hazel Pendrey and grandmother Mrs. William Passey all of Montpelier.
