LaVerel Smith (Christensen) - Class of 1943

LaVerel "Smitty" Christensen, 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on March 6, 2013 in Bountiful, Utah.

She was born on September 15, 1924 in Montpelier, ID to Harry and Clara Smith. She married Raymond W. Christensen on October 6, 1964. Together they were blessed with two beautiful daughters.

"Smitty" was a very self sufficient woman which served her well. She loved learning and was an avid reader and understood the world as few do. She forever upheld righteous principles that defined her as a woman of moral character. She was energetic and feisty, with wide reaching interests including: the political world, reading, bowling, caring for animals of all kinds, taking her girls camping and making wonderful sweets. She taught her children and grandchildren time honored values, including honesty, hard work, discipline, and helping the less fortunate.

In 1970, "Smitty" stepped in to run Intermountain Tow Service and Salvage Pool. She was a pioneer in the Towing Industry as one of the only women in a male dominated field at that time. After 38 years of running Intermountain Tow, she retired in 2008 and then enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren and riding around in the Tow Trucks with Lynn. She was always involved in her community including; the LDS Young Women's program, volunteering time to support the girls in sporting events and camping. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts of America and helped out with the Community Action Program for the Council of Aging
