Jean Berrey Maughan began her eternal journey on January 1, 2006 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born March 13, 1925 in Wardboro, Idaho to Mary Elizabeth Humphreys and John A. Berrey, the youngest of ten children. She married Dale Leth Maughan October 13, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; he passed away October 13, 1962. 

Jean was a member of the Layton 17th Ward where she served in many church callings, including the Relief Society and Primary organizations. She especially enjoyed serving in the Primary organization. 

She taught first grade at South Clearfield Elementary School for many years. She loved and encourged her students to "be the best they could be." Each and every child learned to read brfore finishing her first grade class. 

Mother was kind, courageous and loving to all. She was not judgemental --she was very accepting and loved people the way they were. 

Surviving are her three children: Laurie, Layton, UT, Chuck (Erma), Clearfield, UT; Bruce (Pam), Layton, UT; eight grandchildren; and a brother, David L. (Donna) Berrey. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dale, and eight brothers and sisters. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Layton, UT, 250 N. Fairfield Rd. Interment, Layton Memorial Park.
