In Memory

George Glauser - Class of 1941

George William Glauser, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away suddenly and peacefully in his garden in Tustin, Calif. on June 26, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Jensen Glauser, sons, Gary (Tafe), Chuck (Heidi), daughter, Julie (Chris), his sister, Erna Stevenson and brother, Wayne (Donna).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Mary Glauser and sister, Lily. He reveled in great-grandchildren.

George was born in Montpelier on Feb. 21, 1923. Having graduated from Montpelier High School in 1941, he attended Idaho State in Pocatello for one year and then enlisted in the Naval Cadet Flight Program. In June of 1944, he earned his Naval gold wings and was commissioned as a Second Lt. in the US Marine Corps. His boyhood dream to fly became a reality for the next 30 years retiring as a Lt. Colonel. His career spanned World War II, Korea and Vietnam, in which he earned numerous decorations, commendations and the coveted Distinguished Flying cross for his heroic combat aerial photographic missions in Korea.

In addition to serving well the country he so cherished, George was a passionate hunter and fisherman, returning often by air and by land to his beloved Bear Lake. He spent his post-military life in southern California, working and serving his community. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he dutifully and diligently served in numerous capacities which brought him endless joy. A trusted friend to all who knew him, we will miss him and look forward to our reunion. Until then, we know he is working hard as a true “fisher of men.”
