Gay Linford (Muirhead) - Class of 1949

Mrs. Ronda Gaye Linford Muirhead, 21, the wife of Airman 2|C Gerald Muirhead, and Scott Thomas Sleight, 29 month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Sleight of Geneva, were fatally injured In a head-on automobile collision late Monday afternoon, October 20, 1952, on U. S. Highway 89, 3 1/2 miles south of Afton. Mr. Muirhead, the third passenger in the car driven south by Mrs. Muirhead, and the three people in the car driven north by Judy Erickson, 16, were taken to the Star Valley L D. S. Hospital. Joel Erickson, 13, brother of Judy, and their mother, Mrs. Ruby Erickson were the other passengers in the Erickson car. Mrs. Muirhead was killed instantly and the Sleight child died in an ambulance en route to Afton. The Muirheads had picked up the Sleight child at Geneva shortly after 1 p. m., on a trip to Afton to visit relatives and friends of Mrs. Muirhead. Airman Muirhead was on emergency leave from Japan due to illness of his wife. Since arriving in the States, their infant daughter died shortly after birth. Mrs. Muirhead was a member of the September nurses graduating class at the Dee Hospital, Ogden. She, accompanied by her husband, had been recuperating and visiting at the Linford home at Raymond.

Gay was born Aug. 10, 1931 in Montpelier, ID, to A. R. and Norma Hillier Linford. She attended school in Raymond, ID until the 8th grade. She attended Montpelier High School for two years. Besides her parents, Mrs. Muirhead is survived by a brother, Jon R. Linford, 16, of Raymond. and maternal grandmother. Mrs. Amy Dewey. Services will be held at 2 p. m., Friday in the Afton North Ward L. D. S. chapel. Airman Muirhead, a native of Mississippi, who suffered fractures of both legs and Jaws, was scheduled to be flown to Cheyenne Wednesday.
