Robert Ericsson - Class of 1966

Robert E.Ericsson, 24, of 733 Stevens Street, American Falls Idaho, was killed shortly before 2 AM Monday, October 9 when the car he was driving went off the side of the road. He tried to return at too sharp an angle and overturned, according to the Power County Sheriff's Office. The accident occurred on State Highway 37 about one mile east of the west American Falls interchange, officials said. Sheriff's officers, who are still investigaing the accident, noted excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the fatal mishap.

Montpelier New-Examiner

Robert Eric Ericsson, 24, who lived most of his life in Montpelier, was killed in a one-car accident early Monday morning near American Falls.  Since May of this year he had been the inhalation therapist in the department he had installed at Power County Hospital in American Falls.  He was born March 27, 1948 at St. George, Utah to Herbert G. and Eleanor Howell Ericsson and accompanied the family in Montpelier when his father assumed the administrationship of Bear Lake Memorial Hospital on April 20, 1950.  He attended elementary schools in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School with the class of 1966.  In the fall of 1966 he enlisted for a period of four years in the US Navy.  He was assigned as a medic in the Third Division of the US Marine Corps and was in Viet Nam for a period of one year until being wounded in 1968.  He was honorably discharged in  1970 with citations including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.   He was an active reservist at the time of his death.  Mr. Ericsson attended ISU in Pocatello and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where he received training in inhalation therapy.  He belonged to the Presbyterian Church and was a member of Roland Evans Post No. 3 American Legion at American Falls.  Surviving are his parents and four brothers.  Services were held in the Community Presbyterian Church.  Robert is buried in the Montpelier cemetery.
