Leroy Blaser - Class of 1927

LOGAN, Utah — LeRoy Alfred Blaser, 91, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on Feb. 21, 2001.

He was born to Alfred and Emma Trussel Blaser in Montpelier, Idaho, April 12, 1909. On June 7, 1935, he married Rachel Minson in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death August 8, 1994.

He was a former residential building contractor in Utah, owning Blaser Construction Co. He built many homes in the Ogden and Cache Valley area over a period of 30 years. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Utah State Agricultural College and his doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley. He was assistant superintendent of Ogden city schools and director of trade and industrial education for Utah. He taught at Weber State College.

In 1948, he was the State Department’s educational specialist for Brazil. He and his family lived in Rio de Janeiro for three years. He was an instructional specialist for California and in 1952 returned to Utah and began working at Utah State University. He was executive secretary of the Alumni Association, director of Alumni Affairs, University Development and Information Services, and was appointed professor emeritus before retiring in 1974.

He was active in the LDS Church and was a high priest in the Logan 28th Ward. He served many church callings including Sunday School superintendent, High Priest group leader, and home teacher. He was known throughout the area for his lectures on the archaeological proofs of the Book of Mormon. He served in the Swiss German Mission.

He is survived by his brothers Glen and Albert Blaser of Boise, Idaho, Harold Blaser, Carmichael, Calif., and Goldie Maughan of Ogden, Utah. He was preceded in death by his brother Ed; his mother and father, Alfred and Emma; his wife Rachel; and two of his children, Don Blaser and JoAnn Russon.

He has five children: Don Blaser (deceased); Stephen LeRoy Blaser, Bountiful, Utah; John Blaser, Mesquite, Nev.; Norma Blaser, Ogden, Utah; JoAnn Russon (deceased); and Lora Allred, Logan, Utah. He has 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Many were fortunate to enjoy his keen sense of humor.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday the Allen-Cranney Mortuary, 420 E. 1800 North, North Logan. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
