In Memory

Virginia Parker (George) - Class of 1930

Idaho State Journal, 02/22/09

GEORGETOWN, Idaho - Marion Virginia Parker George, 95, was born on Tuesday, October 21, 1913, at the home of her grandparents, William Joel and Rebecca Jensen Lindsay, in the town of Bennington, Idaho. Her parents were Jared Parker and Marion Zeruiah Lindsay. She passed away on February 20, 2009, at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital located in Montpelier, Idaho.

She married Wayne Woodrow George the 22nd of December 1943 in the Logan LDS Temple. There were four sons born to this union, one of whom was stillborn. She loved boys and delighted in their antics and energy.
Her life covered a broad spectrum of historical events and she was dubious about new conveniences that required adjustments. She enjoyed a simple life and was always more interested in people than technological advancements. She did not grow up with television although she and her husband were later given one. She rarely turned it on finding it to be a nuisance offering nothing of much viewing value.
She had an incredible memory and was able to recall the names and happenings of all families and their members residing in her beloved town of Bennington. For years, she wrote to each missionary from the Bennington ward on a monthly basis, often tucking in a five or ten dollar bill, until she could no longer type.
She graduated from high school the same year as her older brother because she had started early. Shortly thereafter, she began training in the nursing field. After completing three years training, she spent some of her employment years at the old hospital in Montpelier.

She loved her church - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - and served in many positions. The positions she enjoyed the most were the ones related to genealogical research. She held the position of stake head coordinator of this effort for years and years during which time, she taught herself to read and understand Danish simply through her extensive use of Danish records.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-Ross Parker, and two sisters, Rebecca June Martineau and Bertha Lindsay Boehme. She is survived by her sons, Wayne Marion (Marilyn) George, C. Patrick (Judy) George, and Samuel Parker (Francis) George and their families. Her grandchildren number fourteen; great grandchildren number twenty five with one great, great grandchild.

She was greatly loved and respected by all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Georgetown LDS Chapel. Interment will be in the Bennington Cemetery, in Bennington, Idaho.
