Earl Stephens - Class of 1931 VIEW PROFILE

MONTPELIER -- Earl Edwin Stephens, 89, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier. He was born May 7, 1913, in Montpelier, Idaho, to John Edwin and Louise Perkins Stephens. 

He married Lily Rose Teuscher on June 6, 1934, in the Salt Lake City temple. She passed away on May 7, 2000. 

He went to school in Montpelier, where he held the Montpelier High School high jump record for many years. 

During his working years he owned a Conoco service station, worked as a miner, as employee of the railroad, worked for Walton Feed and worked in ranching and farming. He used to enjoy exhibiting horses and entering them in the pulling contests at the county fair. 

Earl was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings including bishopric, high priest's group leader, Sunday school teacher, YMMIA, stake high priest’s secretary, and Young Men's basketball coach. 

He was a member of the Idaho Cattlemen's Association, worked on the water board and served as water master. He loved hunting and fishing. 

Earl is survived by one son, Earl Reed (Keary) Stephens of Heber City, Utah; two daughters, Karen (Paul) Cox of Pocatello, and Nancy (Neil) Dimick of Laguna Hills, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, LaGrande Stephens of Salt lake City, Charles Stephens of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sterling Stephens of Logan, Utah; and one sister, Shirley Wheatley of Boise, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife and sweetheart, Lily, his parents, John and Louise Stephens, three brothers, Roger, Glen and Dean, one sister, Ruth Nielson, and one granddaughter, Heidi. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18 at 11 a.m. in the Montpelier Stake Center. Burial will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
