Elma Bentsen (Moss) - Class of 1932

MONTPELIER - Elma Kathryn Bentsen Moss, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 29 1999, while visiting her daughter in Chloride, Arizona.

She was born Dec. 11, 1914, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Hans Christian and Sophronia Jane Dayton Bentsen. Elma was the third of eight children and was raised and educated in Montpelier. She married Willard DuRell Moss on Nov. 6, 1935, in Ogden, Utah, and later the marriage was solemnized on June 11, 1965, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. He passed away on Oct. 11, 1975.

Elma was deeply loved by everyone who knew her. Her warmth and sincerity made one feel immediately at home in her presence. She was a loving mother and grandmother and her life totally evolved around her family and loved ones. She loved a clean house and a beautiful yard and garden. She loved to crochet, read and make beautiful quilts for each of her grandchildren. She loved the outdoors and loved to travel.

She and her husband built a cabin in Alpine, Wyoming, where they loved to fish, entertain and Dutch oven cook. Other family members built there also, and it became the site of many wonderful and fun family activities and reunions.

She was an active member of the LDS Church. She attended the temple weekly and served as president of the Young Women and Relief Society. She also enjoyed serving as a Ward and Stake missionary. In December of 1976 she served a full-time mission to the Arkansas/Little Rock Mission. In her later years she moved to Provo, Utah, to be closer to her family.

Elma is survived by three sons, Bentsen (Janet) of West Jordan, Utah; Robert (Pam) of Provo, Utah; Kevin of Elko, Nevada; one daughter, Kathryn (Gary) Debolt of Chlroide, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virl (Howard) McMurray of Pocatello and Bonnie Berg of Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter LouAnn, and five brothers, John, Gary, Carl, F.C. (Hoge) and Jimmy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 12 noon in the Montpelier Fourth Ward Chapel, 485 S. 7th St. Burial will be in the Montpelier Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.
