Maxine Day (Jones) - Class of 1934

POCATELLO — Maxine D. Jones, age 85, passed away June 24, 2002, at a local care facility following a long illness resulting from cancer. She was born October 2, 1916, in Montpelier, Idaho to Morris and Vivian Day. She graduated from Montpelier High School as valedictorian in 1933. 

She married Stanley (Sam) Jones on July 31, 1937. She and Sam moved to Glenns Ferry, Idaho, where they had two children, Judy and Jake. They moved to Boise in 1955, and lived there until 1958. From 1958 to 1974, they lived in Mountain Home, Idaho. Maxine moved to Pocatello to be closer to her children after Sam died in 1974. 

Maxine loved to play bridge. She became a Life Master when playing duplicate bridge at a Gem State regional competition held in Boise in 1978. She played bridge wherever she lived, making many friends. While living in Glenns Ferry, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also loved to cook, read, golf, bowl and spend time with her family at Island Park. 

Maxine is survived by her children, Judy Liday and husband, Jim, of Pocatello, Idaho, Jake Jones and wife, Grace, of Twin Falls, Idaho; a half-brother, Dick Day of Patterson, Calif.; a half-sister, Myrna Sue Elliot of Salt Lake City, Utah; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepmother, two sisters and a half-brother. 

After cremation, her ashes will be joined with those of her husband. 

A memorial service will be held 11 Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Downard-Hansen Funeral Chapel, 241 N. Garfield Ave.
