Idaho Press-Tribune, 07/14/04

Arlene Schoener, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 11, 2004, at a local care facility. Arlene was born July 23, 1916, to George Edward and Emma Ruth Stephens in Bennington, Idaho.

Arlene graduated from Montpelier High School and shortly after moved to Boise where she worked for Blake Moffett & Towne Paper Company. In Boise she met Joe Schoener, and they were married May 10, 1942, while stationed in Gowen Field in the U.S. Air Force. After they were married, Joe spent three years stationed in England. While he was stationed in England, Arlene sold train tickets at a depot in Ogden, Utah.

When Joe returned from England, they bought the Pioneer Market in Caldwell and ran it for three years. They then purchased the Pik-n-Paket Market in Nampa, which they owned and managed for the following 28 years. After retirement she loved to travel with her sisters. Together they traveled to Mexico, Canada, Cruises to Alaska, Branson, Mo., Memphis, Tenn., and Nashville, Tenn.

Arlene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she loved teaching Sunday school.

Arlene enjoyed camping, bowling, crafts and playing pool. But most of all she loved her family.

She is survived by her brother, Ralph (DeeAnn) Stephens, Montpelier; sister, Carma (Harvey) Saunders, Pocatello; sister-in-law, Geniva Stephens, Montpelier; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents; brothers, Don and Ray; and sisters, Georgia and Nina.

Funeral services for Arlene will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Seventh Ward LDS Chapel on Philbin and Siphon Road with Bishop Ron Petersen conducting. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.
