Idaho State Journal, 09/19/08

MONTPELIER - Julia Maxine Brown Peterson Cutler, 91, of Montpelier, passed away at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, of natural causes incident to age. She was born in Montpelier, Idaho, on April 27, 1917, to Fergus Brown and Laura Mae Holmes, the seventh of 11 children. She spent her early childhood on various ranches in the area. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1934.

On November 7, 1936, she married Everett Hazen Peterson of Ovid in Soda Springs, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple in 1951. To this union were born five children, Laura Gayle (Lowell) Tueller of Boise, Idaho, Ronald Glen (Helen) Peterson of Hamilton, Ohio, Everett Wade (Delores) Peterson of Mesquite, Nevada, Guy Fergus Peterson (deceased), Lee (Glenn) Dayton of Montpelier, Idaho, Linda Joy (Wayne) Cochran of Montpelier, Idaho.

Everett passed away on March 15, 1969, at an early age of 56. On July 21, 1972, she married Ransom Josiah Cutler of Corrinne, Utah. He passed away on February 16, 1997, at the age of 86.

Maxine was an excellent mother to her children, making sure they had plenty of activities such as softball, swimming, picnicking, and camping. She and Everett owned/operated three ranches/farms in the Bear Lake valley and there was always plenty of work to do. Everett worked shift work at Monsanto for 18 years; so much of the responsibility fell to Maxine and her young children.

Her children and extended family have remained close, and she was beloved by all her posterity. She has 24 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her family reunions immensely because she got to spend time with everyone.

She was an avid bottle collector and owned one of the best collections in the area. She also enjoyed picking huckleberries and quilting for the Bear Lake Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed serving others.
She and Ransom enjoyed dancing as well as traveling in the RV. This brought much joy and happiness to her in the latter part of her life. Maxine really appreciated Ransom's ability to maintain fences.

She served in many positions in the church and was very spiritual throughout her life. She was a dedicated visiting teacher until age 90.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Everett Peterson and Ransom Cutler, son, Guy, granddaughter, Brittney Jo Peterson, and great-granddaughter, Amanda Tueller, as well as granddaughter-in-law, Ann Tueller. Her siblings, Mildred, Ray, Window, Cecil, Myrtle (Pat), Blaine, Robert, Betty, and Dorothy all preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 22, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Montpelier Fifth Ward Chapel.
