Gene Hess - Class of 1935

POCATELLO - Gene 'Pappy' Hess, 88, Pocatello, died Tuesday morning, July 6, 2004, at his home. He was born on Aug. 1, 1915 at Montpelier, Idaho, to Harrison S. and Emma Smart Hess, attending school in Montpelier, graduating from Bear Lake High School. Pappy married Marge Jones on June 14, 1941, in Montpelier. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer for approximately 50 years, a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Union Pacific Old Timers Club No. 25. Pappy enjoyed riding motorcycles, soaking in the hot pools at Lava Hot Springs, hunting, fishing, garage mechanic, welder, inventor and Square and Round Dancing. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as a Home Teacher.

Pappy is survived by his wife, Marge of Pocatello; their children, Leslie (Les) Hunter, Austin, Texas; and twins, Mikki Allen, Key Largo, Fla., and Mike (Sheree) Hess, American Falls, Idaho; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 9, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Cornelison~Henderson Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, with Bishop Ramey Remington conducting. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
