Hazel Loveday (Peterson) - Class of 1936

MONTPELIER — Hazel Loveday Peterson, 91, our beloved mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009. She is now joined with her husband and love of her life, Vernal Eugene Peterson. Born May 7, 1917, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Kern and Delilah Loveday, she was the second of four children. Hazel was a loving mother with a generous heart and an open mind.

She married Vernal Eugene Peterson on January 2, 1937, in Randolph, Utah, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 14, 1937.

She had a great sense of humor and a kind, giving, spiritual nature. She loved traveling, playing bridge with friends, spending time at Bear Lake, and being surrounded by family.

As an active member of the LDS Church, Hazel served in many callings including stake dance director, Relief Society teacher, visiting teacher, and served in the Young Women’s organization for many years. 
She is survived by her children, Russell (Janet) Peterson of Montpelier, Idaho, Robert (Ginny) Peterson of McCammon, Idaho, Lanette (Larry) Hansen of Logan, Utah; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Marie (Blake) Aland. She was preceded in death by three sons, Jerry Vernal, Steven Loveday, Jefferey Scott, one brother, Lamont Loveday and one sister, Margaret Williamson.

Funeral services will be held in the Montpelier Second Ward LDS Chapel on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
