Glenn Blaser - Class of 1937

The Idaho Statesman, 04/17/08

Glenn F. Blaser peacefully passed away in the company of loved ones on April 14, 2009 just shy of his 90th birthday. Glenn was born in Montpelier, Idaho on April 27, 1919 to Alfred and Emma Trussel Blaser. Glenn lived a life full of service and adventure. He served a three year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Manaus, Brazil. Upon his return, he attended Utah State University earning a degree in physics. While attending school, he met and married his sweetheart, Ruth Carlson. They were married Dec. 23, 1943 in the Logan Temple. Glenn left soon thereafter to serve in the army where he became an aide to General George Patton. His service during the Battle of the Bulge earned Glenn the Bronze Star. His final position in the army after the German surrender was the military governor of the Northern Rhineland. There he helped begin the reconstruction of Germany. Returning to the states, Glenn and Ruth received a welcome addition to their family in a daughter Carolee and later a son, Scott. Glenn was a family man and adored his children. Travelling the world was one of their favorite pastimes. In 1955, Glenn and his family moved to Boise off of 24th street and later to the home he built on Stonecreek Dr. There was always a fire roaring and good stories to be heard at the Blaser home. Glenn was a businessman who built and owned many apartment buildings and homes in Boise. Those who lived there found Glenn to be full of kindness and compassion in the lean months of their lives. Glenn would do anything for anyone at any time. Just how many rents were forgiven or groceries left on door steps only Glenn knows as it was not his way to make his services known. Glenn served in numerous positions in the LDS church with many years on the Stake High Council in the Boise Stake. He truly led a life of service and lived his beliefs daily as he constantly shared his love for light and truth through the testimony he bore in word and deed. Glenn will be missed but his legacy of service and love will be continued by those who survive him: daughter, Carolee Campbell of Boise; son, Scott of New York City; grandchildren, Todd (Brandee) Campbell of Boise; Jennifer Campbell of Boise, great-grandchildren, Kelsee, Riley, Cory, Remley, Brooklyn, and Ramey; one brother, Harold, of Sacramento; one sister-in-law, Lois of Odgen; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, sister, three brothers and grandson, Michael Campbell. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2009 at the LDS Chapel, 3229 Bogus Basin Rd., Boise. Interment will follow at the Dry Creek Cemetery.
