Helen Hanson (Kunz) - Class of 1937

MONTPELIER - Helen Hanson Kunz, 80, of Montpelier, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital, Montpelier, Idaho.

She was born July 24, 1919, in Montpelier, Idaho. She grew up in Montpelier, Idaho, and on June 26, 1948, she married Rulon "Dude" Kunz in Soda Springs, Idaho. Rulon preceded her in death on May 30, 1966.

Helen worked for more than 20 years as a beautician in Montpelier, Soda Springs, Idaho, and Afton, Wyoming. In 1989, she moved to Pocatello, Idaho. An integral part of Helen's life was serving others, and while in Pocatello she served as a volunteer in the Bannock Regional Medical Center. She logged in more than 1,300 hours of service and, in 1992, was selected as Volunteer of the Year. She returned to her longtime home in Montpelier in 1995.

Helen was a wonderful cook, and focused her life on providing a loving home and environment to her family and friends. She also loved music and sang for many years with the Montpelier Chord Busters.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Helen was preceded in death by her father and mother, James Victor and Effie Mae Perkins Hanson, three brothers, Reed Hanson, Clinton Hanson and Max Hanson, and four sisters, Norma Wootton, Marjorie Leeper, and infant twin sisters, Fawn and Fay Hanson. She is survived by her three children, Brent Kunz, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Renee (Herb) Wuska, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and John (Jo Ellyn), Denver, Colorado.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Katie Kunz, Marianne Kunz and J. Brent Kunz of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Mike (Lori) Dimick of Ozark, Missouri, Nicole (Greg) Nelson of San Diego, California, Heidi Kunz, Scott Kunz, Courtney Kunz and Melissa Kunz of Denver, Colorado, Kim (Chris) Powell of Provo, Utah, and Richard Kunz, and LDS missionary serving in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and two great-granddaughters, Erika Roker of Ozark, Missouri, and Olivia Lauren Nelson of San Diego, California.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, March 18, 2000, at the LDS First Ward, 485 South Seventh Street, Montpelier, Idaho. Interment will be in the Montpelier, Idaho Cemetery.
