In Memory

Edward Hanson - Class of 1954

Edward R Hanson, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on June 14, 2015, suddenly and unexpectedly, surrounded by his family.  Ed was born on August 26, 1936, in Pocatello, Idaho.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Bernetta Hanson, and great-grandson Jackson.  Ed married Arlene Spencer, his high school sweetheart, in July 1956 and they have five children: Max (Bettie), Marji, Garth (Sharla), Glenn, and Clark (Jennifer).  Ed and Arlene have sixteen grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  Ed was a proud Grandpa and thought his grandkids hung the moon and stars.  He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

After graduating from Idaho State University, Ed started his career as a civil servant and employee of the federal government.  After retiring from government service, Ed and is son Garth owned and operated two tire stores.  Ed was in his element working with cars and tires and talking to customers.  There was nothing that Ed couldn’t build, repair or tear apart and put back together better than before. He was an industrious man who always held a job, sometimes two at a time, since the time he was eight-years-old until his second retirement.

Ed loved the time he spent outdoors.  He loved snowmobiles, boats and fishing.  Ed also loved all things motorized and was proud of his collection of antique cars.  When Ed and Arlene finally retired for real, they traveled the world together.  Ed and Arlene sailed all the way around the world and Ed was particularly happy about that last achievement.

The family invites friends and loved ones to a visitation at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main Street, Kaysville, Utah, on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  On June 18, 2015, following a 1:00 p.m. visitation at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay Street, Montpelier, Idaho, there will be a celebration of life for immediate family members.  Please come prepared with your best stories.  Interment will follow at the Montpelier City Cemetery.
