Darrell Holmes - Class of 1942

George Darrell Holmes, 75, passed away in his sleep at his home in Montpelier, Nov. 9, 1999. He was born January 6, 1924, in Montpelier, the son of Oliver Wendell and Isabelle Janette Hall Holmes. On June 3, 1947, he married Dorothy Pearl Hulery in Las Vegas, Nv. They lived many years in Great Falls, Mt. before returning to Montpelier in 1992. They had been married 51 years when Dorothy died in 1998. George and Dorothy raised four children, Julie Manor of Ogden, George Jr. of Great Falls (deceased) and James and David, both of Montpelier. George was raised in the Montpelier area, one of twelve children. He proudly served his country during World War II as member of the United States Army, fought in the battle of the bulge, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having served as commander of Post 1087 in Great Falls. Of all the things George loved in life, he loved his family most. George is survived by three children, Julie, James and David; three brothers, Carlos, William (Bill), and Ferris; four sisters, Arlene Peterson, Eldene Hymas, Mary Kay Poulsen and Ione Clark; 11 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
