Betty Jean Carleton (Spratt Beatty) - Class of 1941

Betty Jean Carleton Spratt Beatty, age 86, died Sunday morning, March 29th, 2009 at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born to A.E. Carleton and Blanche Marie Paxman Carleton on January 17, 1923, in Salt Lake City. Her father worked for Railway Express Agency and the family moved to Montpelier, Idaho in 1928. Betty attended the local schools there, graduating from Montpelier High School. She attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, then returned to Montpelier. She married James Irving Spratt in 1943. He preceded her in death in 1954. Of this loving union, four daughters were born: Mary Susan Hansen, (Gerald deceased), Cynthia Ann Anderson (Gene "Tige"), Kathryn Louise Torres (Tino) and Julia Marie Golightly (Tom); stepson, Steve Beatty (Babs). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one niece, Judy Tschorn. In 1962, Betty moved back to Salt Lake City and was employed at Questar Corporation (Mountain Fuel) until her retirement in 1987. In 1973, Betty married Warren Beatty. He preceded her in death in 1983. Betty loved her family dearly, followed closely by playing bridge! She was an avid fan of the "Jazz". Enjoyed watching golf (when she could no longer play), as well as tennis and the O'Reilly Factor. Mom was a Superb cook and her favored reading was a new cookbook. Mom loved words and purused the dictionary which made her a very competitive Scrabble opponent. Mom loved beautiful flowers and found solace and comfort in her garden. Shopping was Mom's passion, which she passed on to her daughters. She will be deeply mourned and missed by all who loved her. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City.
