Bob Grimes - Class of 1942

Robert Nelson Grimes, 82, of Pocatello passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2006, on his birthday at the Idaho State Veterans Home. Robert was born Sept. 8, 1924, the second of three children of Charles Eugene and Amy Mary Nelson Grimes in Montpelier, Idaho. He graduated from Montpelier High School. 
Bob met and married Florence Adams on June 26, 1943, in Pocatello, Idaho. Together Bob and Florence raised three children, Kathy, Bill and Robert. After they were married, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Lake (a destroyer escort) in the South Pacific during WWII. 
Bob worked for Boise Cascade in sales and management and later owned Highland Homes and Realty.

Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various ward and stake callings including as bishop twice. He was also a member of the V.F.W. His hobbies included boating, skiing, fishing, golfing, music, but he especially enjoyed spending his time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Florence of Pocatello; a daughter Kathy (J.O.) Cotant, Tyhee; two sons, Bill Grimes, San Diego, Calif., and Robert Grimes, Boise, Idaho; a sister, Dorothy (Harry) Allsop, Star Valley, Wyo.; five grandchildren, Johnny, Bobby, Ryan, Chad and Kelsi; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at the Tyhee LDS Stake Center, corner of Tyhee and Moonglow, with Bishop Paul Bastian officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. A military graveside will conclude the services at the Mountainview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave., Pocatello.
