Wiley Campbell - Class of 1944

OGDEN, UTAH – Wiley Milton Campbell, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011. He was born on February 6, 1925, in Pocatello to George R. and Florence W. Campbell. He spent his boyhood, and received his high school diploma in Montpelier.

Wiley was a WWII veteran serving mainly in the Pacific area from Guam to Japan. He joined the air force in 1943 and retired in 1968 flying as a tail gunner on B-24s, B-29s, B-36s, and B-52 bombers, retiring with the rank of SMSgt. He was with the Strategic Air Command (SAC).

Wiley was an outdoorsman and especially liked bird hunting. He enjoyed the 15 years he served as a volunteer at the Canadian Goose Club where he greatly appreciated the hunting and camaraderie of the members.

He married Clarine Wright of Bennington in 1944. Together they raised two children, Connie C. (David) Goodman of Goodyear, Ariz., and Guy R. (Renee) Campbell of Fair Oaks, Calif.

Wiley is survived by his wife and children, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Florence C. Matthews of Cedar City, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Interment will take place at the Montpelier Cemetery on Friday, June 24, 2011.
