In Memory

Jack Jensen - Class of 1944

Jack C. Jensen, age 73, died peacefully at home on April 6, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born on July 7, 1926 in Montpelier, ID. to Elma Irene Zumbrunnen and Oren LeRoy Jensen.

Growing up on a farm in Montpelier, Jack learned the value of hard work as well as an appreciation for the outdoors that would last a lifetime. Jack was active at Montpelier High School, where he was a tackle of the football team, the lead in the school opera, and a letterman in basketball and track and field.

At age 17, Jack joined the Navy and served in World War II for two years as a radioman in the South Pacific on the carrier Ticonderoga.

After the war, Jack moved to Salt Lake City, where he attended the University of Utah law school. At the University, Jack met his adoring wife Merea Whitbeck. They had four children. Merea passed away in 1980.

Jack later married Jacqueline Rice. She was his devoted sweetheart and companion until the end of his life. Their journey together was one of great emotional and spiritual growth.

While he was still a young man, Jack began a long and successful career in real estate. He was the principal broker of First Security Realtor from 1956 to 1974. He also served as the president of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors and was a director of both the Utah Association and National Association of Realtors.

From 1974 until the present, he served as the principal broker for Jack C. Jensen and Associates, Realtor. Jack has been active in residential, commercial and industrial real estate development throughout Utah and Idaho.

Jack was a lifelong member of the LDS Church.

Embracing life to its fullest, Jack had many interests. He loved to play golf. He loved to travel the world. Perhaps more than anything, Jack loved to spend time at his Montpelier ranch, where he spent countless hours fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and riding his horses.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife Merea and their infant son, Scott. His parents and two older brothers also preceded him in death.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline; his son, Skip Jensen (Teddy), Salt Lake City; two daughters, Martie Merea Schofield (Floyd) and Holly Lynn Derum (Jim), both of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Winnifred Bott (Ralph), Bountiful; and Beverly Frank (Alan), Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; many precious nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Lady.

Consistent with his character, Jack fought a valiant battle with recurrent colon cancer. In an effort to find a cure for this disease, donations may be made in his name to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Services in Jack's honor will be held on Monday, April 10, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the Cottonwood 13th Ward, at 6400 So. 1830 E. in Salt Lake. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
