Darrell Windley - Class of 1945

NORTH OGDEN- Darrell William Windley passed away at his home on January 11, 2008. He was born on December 14, 1927 in Glenns Ferry, Idaho. He was the 7th child in a family of ten children and only son born to Ray William Windley and Pearl Edna Hansen. He married Ramona Mae Smith in 1946 at Montpelier, ID. They were later sealed in the LDS Temple at Logan, UT.

He was raised in Garden City, Utah and was schooled in the Bear Lake area. He served in the Navy from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He worked as a switchman for Union Pacific Railroad from 1947 in Montpelier and then Ogden. Later, he worked as a conductor on the freight lines running between Salt Lake and Pocatello and Green River, WY. He retired in 1989 at the age of 62 after 43 years of service.

He was a member of the LDS church and had served in various positions over the years.

In retirement, he enjoyed traveling the west with Ramona in their motor home, visiting friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona, and four sons; Terrell (Linda), Layton; Rick (Sarah), North Ogden; Curtis (Donna), Ogden and Grant (Sherry), Pleasant View, seventeen, grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six sisters, Mary, Edna, Lapreal, Norma, Vernae, and Arlene, three step-brothers, Raymond, Marvin, Frank and a step-sister Elva.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, three sisters, and a step-sister.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 845 Washington blvd., Ogden.

Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park.
