Idaho State Journal 9/14/2003

WARDBORO, Idaho - Gloria Rigby Nelson, 70, passed away Friday, Sept.. 12, 2003 at her home in Wardboro, surrounded by loving family members, after a valiant fight with cancer. She was born January 29, 1933 in Iona, Idaho to Truman W. and Lillis Keller Rigby. She was raised in the Bear Lake Valley. She graduated from Montpelier High School and then went on to nursing school in Pocatello, Idaho, and graduated as a registered nurse in 1953. She was a kind and compassionate nurse and truly cared about the people that she served in this capacity. She married Earl Calvin Nelson on May 19, 1953 in the Logan LDS Temple. Gloria was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions in the church and magnified every calling that she held.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Earl, of Wardboro; three daughters and five sons, Kurt's (Lenna) Nelson of Preston, Idaho; Becky (David) Cox, Preston, Idaho; Randall (Tami) Nelson of Mesa, Ariz.; Susanne (Kipp) Norman of Preston, Idaho; Jeffrey (Terry) Nelson of Mesa, Ariz.; Michael (Dorothy) Nelson of Bancroft, Idaho; Daniel (Carissa) Nelson of Columbus, Indiana; Melissa (Pernell) Cleverley of Bancroft, Idaho; one son-in-law, Phillip Kent of Richfield, Idaho; 57 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, five brothers and one sister, Truman K. (Ada) Rigby of Blanding, Utah; Carlos (Martha) Rigby of Mt. Vernon, Virginia; Spencer K. (Marilyn) Rigby of Orem, Utah; Dianne (Randy) Keetch of Dingle, Idaho; and Keene K. (Dallene) Rigby of Wardboro, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two daughters, Vickie Kent and Heidi Nelson.

Gloria touched many lives with her Christ-like love and example. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her and loved her. First and foremost she was a wife and mother. As her family we are honored to have been a part of her life. She was a perfect mother, friend, confidante, advisor, and she was always a gracious hostess. We will miss her delicious cooking: sourdough pancakes, fried chicken, apple dumplings, and many more wonderful foods. We will miss her loving nature, her smile, her singing and whistling, her sense of humor and her wisdom. We will miss her at all of our family get-togethers that she dearly loved and her competition in playing games, which she loved to do. We are grateful for her many sacrifices on our behalf over the years. She worked hard and accomplished much each day of her life. We will be forever grateful for her love for her Heavenly Father and the example she set for us.

"Oh, how we'll miss you.
Our hearts ache to know you're gone.
But we can hear you telling us,
that life must go on.
When we see a rainbow,
we'll know that you are near.
When there's a lining in the clouds
we'll know that you are here.
We'll feel you in the sunshine
and in the gentle rain.
Though living life without you
will never be the same.
The Savior has embraced you
and beckoned you to come.
Go in peace, you've earned your crown
for a job on earth well done.
We'll love your forever!"

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 12 noon in the Montpelier First Ward Chapel, 485 So. 7th St., Montpelier, Idaho. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery.
