William Wendell Holmes - Class of 1953

BRIGHAM CITY - Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, William "Bill" Wendell Holmes, 74, passed away on Thursday, April 02, 2009 at the University of Utah Medical Center from Pulmonary Fibrosis.He was born on May 7, 1934 in Montpelier, Idaho, a son of Oliver Wendell and Isabel Jeanette Hall Holmes. Bill served in the US Army as a First Sergeant receiving an honorable discharge. He married Ella Mae Bouvier on October 2, 1956 in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in September 1979. Bill married Carol Louise Gauna on May 17, 1980 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Texas Louisiana Gulf States Mission and serving in various callings. Bill and Carol owned and operated Holmes Clothing in Brigham City, Utah. He was a member of the Kiwanis, President of the Lions Club in Salt Lake City and was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He enjoyed traveling, carpentry, cowboy movies and was an avid genealogist. Surviving his wife, Carol, Brigham City, UT; seven children, Gayle (Dan) Eckert, Kamas, UT; Cheryl (Hugo) Zumaeta, Temecula, CA; Alayne (Mike) Buttars, Boise, ID; Brad (Stacie) Holmes, Seattle, WA; Jacqueline (Randy) Weigman, North Las Vegas, NV; Melinda Holmes, Salt Lake City; Adam Holmes, Logan; 20 grandchildren, David, Misha, Reggie, Morgan, Ashlee, Alisha, Allison, Jake, Gavin, Nicolas, Gabriel, Madeline, Avalon, Mackenzie, Emily, Rienzi, Grace, Marie, William and Megan; and three great-grandchil- dren; two brothers, Carloss Holmes, CA; Ferris Holmes, Layton, and one sister, Mary Kay Poulsen, Huntsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ella Mae; five brothers, Richard, Darrell, Larry, Vernon, and Douglas and four sisters, Arlene, Effie, Ione and Eldene. Bill loved sharing the gospel and felt it was a calling the last 20 years to help prepare hundreds of missionaries for their missions in the best way he could, doing what he loved and did best clothing and instructing them on how to look their best when representing their Heavenly Father. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City First LDS Ward Chapel, 236 East 100 South, Brigham City. Graveside service will be on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Memorial Estates Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Salt Lake City, where military honors will be accorded by the Box Elder County Honor Guard.

Mary Kay Holmes (Poulsen) (1952)

William Wendell Holmes (known as Bill Holmes). Was owner of Missionary Holmes Clothing store in Brigham City Utah.  He served a mission in Texas and then was drafted into Army and sent to Germany.  He loved helping Missionary's getting them off on their Missions.  He was kind and. Was a great Missionary all his life, never afraid to share the gospel.

Carloss Holmes (1945)

Bill and my brother Ferris were very young when I left for the navy .When I got home they were full grown special Men what a wonderfully time .Bill and I did sell clothing together at L V. Convention .A very special  time to be close.
