Ted Knutti - Class of 1955

GEORGETOWN, Idaho — George Ted Knutti, 71, passed away on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at his home in Georgetown, Idaho. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on Aug. 5, 1936, to George and Vera Kunz Knutti. He was the oldest of three children. He lived in Montpelier, Idaho, while growing up, attending and graduating from Montpelier High School in 1955. Ted enlisted in the United States Navy in August of 1955. He was an Interior Communications Electrician and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La.

In 1959 he met and married Arlene Thurmond. To this union was born Greggory (Jolyn) Knutti, Paris; Gene (Marge) Knutti, Montpelier; Sydney (Paul) Walker, Oceanside, Calif.; Shannon Walker, Kyle Colon, Oceanside, Calif. Ted and Arlene were divorced.

For a time Ted operated a Phillips 66 station in Montpelier. In 1962 he re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy and went into the submarine service. He served aboard the USS Diodon and the nuclear fleet ballistic missile submarine USS Daniel Boone, USS Tecumseh, and the USS Benjamin Franklin. He finished his naval career as an instructor in the Advanced Training Department Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn. He retired in 1977. He later worked for Vangas in Jackson, Wyo., and Montpelier.

In 1991, he married Sandra Stoddard. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in 2001. Ted was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held the position of High Priest. He loved the outdoors, and for many years he would gather firewood. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper. He loved his family and was loved by them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Shannon, and a sister Rosemary. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; and her children, Denise (Larry) Calloway, Zimmerman, Minn.; Tammy (Tim) Kalliez, Bellingham, Wash.; a sister, Judy Ann Mills; his children; 19 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Services for Ted will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at 12 noon, in the Georgetown LDS Chapel. Interment will be in the Georgetown Cemetery.
