Robert Messerly - Class of 1953

Robert E. "Moose" Messerly, 75, of Green River died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County after a sudden illness. He was born Oct. 11, 1935, in Montpelier, Idaho, the son of Edwin Robert and Ruth B. Nelson Messerly. He attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School with the class of 1953. He also graduated from Utah State University.

He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany.

He married Virginia Bostock on Oct. 5, 1962, in Montpelier. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in Logan, Utah.

Mr. Messerly was employed by General Chemical for 19 years. He then was employed by Rosen Recovery in Rock Springs for 14 years, retiring in 2004.

He was a member of the American Legion Archie Hay Post 24 in Rock Springs, the Rolling Green Country Club in Green River, and Friend of Bill W.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

His interests were bowling, golfing and spending time with family and granddaughters Tara and Haley.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Messerly, of Green River; two sons, Tony Messerly and wife, Carol, of Rock Springs and Thomas Messerly and wife, Shannon, of Green River; one daughter, Teresa Messerly Lytle and husband, George, of Green River; grandchildren, Tara Dawn Durga and husband, Aaron, Haley Dawn Messerly, Mike, Jason and Greg Kofford, John Moore and Nicholas West, all of Green River; special aunt Delijah Hodges of Logan; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Grant and Roger.

Funeral services were held Dec. 2, 2010, at the Green River LDS Stake Center, 120 Shoshone Ave., Green River. Military graveside honors and interment were conducted at the Riverview Cemetery, Green River.
