Theda Eschler (Leak) - Class of 1940

Theda Eschler Leak of West Jordan, age 90, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012. She was born on March 21, 1922 in Bern, Idaho, the fourth child born to Louis Moroni and Anna Elizabeth (Libby) Kunz Eschler. As a child she spent her summers at the "Middle Dairies" near Williamsburg, Caribou County, Idaho where her maternal grandparents, Wm. J. and Annie Schmid Kunz and their extended families homesteaded and made cheese during the summer months. She graduated from Montpelier High School and then worked a year for the FBI in Washington, D. C. during World War II. Theda married Glenden Henry Leak on January 3, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they eventually made their home in West Jordan, Utah where they raised their 5 children on the family farm which had been established in the 1890's. She called West Jordan home for over 62 years. The last years of her life were spent at Legacy House in South Jordan and Sandy Health and Rehab. Theda remained faithful and active i!
n the LDS Church until the end. She served in many capacities throughout her life and especially loved serving for 15 years as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple, serving there with her husband, Glenden until his passing. Theda is survived by her five children: Glen Don (Cheryl) Leak, Archer, Idaho; Judith (Harold) Melton, West Jordan, Utah; Dennis (Sharon) Leak, Ogden, Utah; Timothy (Adrian) Leak, West Jordan, Utah; and Valerie (Gordon) Dean, Kearns, Utah; a sister Donna Kennett, Rupert, Idaho; 16 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Theda was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Thelma Banks, Verda Eschler, Betty Westenhaver, brother Max Eschler, a great grandson, Aiden Cook. Funeral service were held November 10, 2013 at the Mountain Shadows 7th Ward, 7925 S. 2700 West, West Jordan. Interment was at the Wight's Fort Cemetery located in West Jordan. The family wishes to extend grateful appreciation to the loving and kind people at Sandy Health and Rehab as well as to Community Nursing Services.
