Richard Anthony (1960)

Jack died in May of 2008.  We started school together in first grade at the old Washington School.  We played football on the 1959-60 Championship team, graduated in 1960.  We also sang in a quartet together, and in Mr. Baker's choir.  Glay Homer and I, and Layne Wilcox, and Skip Modula, and Bob Moss and some others put a rather large two seater outhouse on the High School Lawn for Halloween  in 1959.  Jack, Jerry Peterson, and Steve Pugmire  soaked it in gas and burned it up the next night.  Somehow everybody knew Glay and I had a hand in putting the toilet there, but nobody knew who burned it up, so Glay and I were elected by Mr. Phillips, and Coach Grant to clean up the mess right after school so everybody in the school could see us.  Jack went into the marines and I went to Utah State AC, then I went on a mission.  We both attended BYU  about 1963-64.  Jack ended up at the U of U, and graduated with a law degree.  Brenda and I moved to SLC, and Jack and I continued out friendship playing basketball, and eating out with our wives.  Brenda and I  moved to Tennessee in 1969, and I lost track of Jack and Beverly.  We renewed our acquaintence about 2007 when he called me out of the blue one day.  He was living in Texas, had found the Church again, and was the Branch President where he lived.  We had some great discussions about decisions we both had made, how it had affected our lives, and I was amazed at his conversion  to the the Church, and his love of the Savior.  He died suddenly of some complications after surgery.  He was a good friend for a long time, and I am sorry we won't see each other at the reunion.  I did not know who would post anything for Jack.  His mother Em Evans, who cooked all of us many good dinners out at the Hacienda is gone.  His cousin Grant Messerely is also gone, and I don't think any of his children have any connection with Bear Lake.  So long Jack, my friend, till we meet again.  Your friend, Richard Anthony

Mike Arnell (1967)

Jack coached my Little League Baseball team when I was nine years of age.  He was very well respected, competive, and liked by all of the team members.  He lived across the street from Lester and Nea Gardner so I would see him often.  I was very sorry to learn that he has passed.  I will never forget him.  A class act.

Larry Rigby (1960)

Mr. Baker formed a male quartet from our class, comprising Richard Anthony, Larry Rigby, Jack Evans and Sheldon Hansen.  We ended up at State Music Festival our senior year earning straight A's on our performances.  Jack was a great baritone.  I always appreciated his easy-going manner.  I guess we would call him nowadays "super-cool."
