Delano Wood - Class of 1953

Delano Wood, although he had defeated three previous cancers, passed on June 28, 2004 after a courageous 13-year battle with the disease.. He is survived by his wife, DeLone Dayton Wood, and by his daughters Sheila and Teresa and by his son Danny. Del was a Whitman Trophy recipient and attended Utah State University on a basketball scholarship. He was an outstanding athlete.

Delano was born May 3, 1934 in Auburn, Wyoming to Russell Daniel and Alphia Rigby Wood. On April 19th, 1958 he began a loving life-long journey with DeLone Dayton. He was a respected professional truck driver for 38 years. Delano was passionate about sports especially basketball, football and golf and loved the St. Louis Cardinals and the Utah Jazz. His greatest pride and joy was his family which include; his wife DeLone; daughter Sheila Readman (Jerry); son Danny Wood (Maggie); daughter Teresa Jedrziewski (Ric); six loving grandchildren Shelbi (Erik), Mitchell D. (Danielle), Russell, Paris, Chezlie and Sierra; one great-granddaughter Taya and soon to be great-grandson Davis; sisters Paula and Sherrel, brothers Val, Gary, Kent and Sam; sister and brother-in-law Donetta and Harold; preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law Elzo and Beatrice Dayton. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Regina Kline and staff;, Vista Care Hospice, especially Megan, Erin, Liz and Jim; and his brother Sam, for their support and care. We love you and you will be missed.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 12:00 noon at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, where friends may call from 10:00 - 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Delano's memory to Make-A-Wish Foundation or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
