Alice Schmid (Perkins Gortcinsky) - Class of 1944

Alice Elinor Schmid Perkins Gortcinsky, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2014. She was born on December 19, 1925 to Robert and Nellie Parker Schmid in Bern, Idaho. She grew up and graduated high school in Montpelier.

She married Wayne B. Perkins on February 2, 1945 in Bern, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Wayne passed away on August 2, 1946. She married Elmer Richard Gortcinsky on May 19, 1952 in Salt Lake City. Elmer passed away on October 9, 1990.

Alice was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many callings including as Relief Society President twice, Relief Society Counselor, Primary President, Primary Counselor and Secretary, Guide Patrol Leader for the BSA, and a Visiting Teacher. She loved being a homemaker and raising her children. She was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed gardening, canning, and working on genealogy. She loved learning. She took pleasure in reading with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed teaching others to cook. Her family was most important to her.

Alice is survived by her son, Robert Wayne (Jean) Perkins, West Jordan; daughters, Kathy (Robert) Hopkins, Ogden; Nanette (Rodger) Olsen, Washington Terrace; Dorothy Gortcinsky, Washington Terrace; and Jennifer Pew, Elkhart, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, David, Marvin, and Ivins Schmid; sisters, Zenna Bridges and Connie Jensen.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, brother Robert, sisters Dorothy, Anna, Emma Lou, and Julia.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 17, 2014.
