Mike Hymas - Class of 1966 VIEW PROFILE

Michael Edward Hymas, age 78, passed away on September 11, 2025 at The Gables Assisted Living Center in Pocatello, Idaho. Mike was born December 22, 1947, in Payette, Idaho and was lovingly adopted by Densil S. Hymas and Virginia M. Booth, who raised him, as their only son.

Mike was raised and educated in Montpelier, Idaho graduating from Montpelier High School in 1966. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1970-1972. On June 3, 1974, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou Peterson, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together, they built a life full of love, faith, and adventure.

Mike and Mary Lou lived and worked in Montpelier until 1981, when Mike accepted a position with the J.R. Simplot Company in Pocatello. They purchased their first home on Bonanza Avenue in Chubbuck, Idaho, where they lived for more than 40 years. In May 2025, Mike and Mary Lou moved to The Gables Assisted Living Center to receive additional care.

Music was one of Mike’s greatest passions. He played his guitar in a band with some friends all over Pocatello and surrounding areas. He loved to sing, play the piano, and even composed some of his own songs. Whether creating music or simply listening, he found joy in all kinds of melodies.

Mike and Mary Lou shared a love for adventure and traveling. Together they made many special memories visiting Alaska to see family, soaking in the sunshine of Hawaii, and exploring Europe, with Paris being a favorite stop. They also traveled throughout the United States and into Canada, enjoying the journey just as much as the destination and cherishing the stories they gathered along the way.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou, who passed away on June 11, 2025, and by his parents, Densil and Virginia Hymas. He is survived by many nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.

Graveside services with military rites will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 1 pm at the Ovid Cemetery.

Mike was one of my closest childhood friends.  Lived across the street from me on Lincoln.  Spent so much time with him in his home and playing in the neighborhood.  Lost track of him following high school but good to know he had a happy and fullfillig life with his sweetheart.
