Gerald Hess Smith, born on December 29, 1933, to Levere and Carmen Adalaide Hess Smith in Georgetown, Idaho, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the age of 90. Gerald, who resided in Preston, Idaho, was known for his humility, hard work, and being a peacemaker. He was a proud veteran, having served his country honorably as a Private 1st Class in the Army. Beyond his service, he was a devoted family man, and his love for his family and the Lord was boundless.
Gerald retired from Sherwin Williams and opened his own paint store, Smith's Paint in Clearfield, Utah, a testament to his lifelong dedication to the paint sales and service industry.
He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is a man of faith who served a mission in the Western States mission, served as a Stake Missionary, Seventy, Ward Clerk, and also served a mission with his dear wife teaching institute at the University of Arkansas. Gerald was also dedicated to his service in the Logan Temple. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, gardening, and playing games with his family.
He married the love of his life, JoAnn Andrus, on November 6, 1959, in the Logan LDS Temple. They enjoyed an abundant life together for 60 years.
Gerald was the beloved father of James (Julie) Smith, Jeryl Ann (Nolan) Olsen, and Jennifer (Taylor) Wilson. He was a cherished grandfather to 18 and great-grandfather to 30.
He was preceded in death by his parents Levere Smith and Carmen Hess; his wife JoAnn Andrus; and his siblings Verna Kelsey, Jessie Smith, Wanda Smith, and Leland Smith.
The family would like to give a special thanks to those who cared for him including those at Maple Springs Lighthouse, Aegis Hospice, Devanie Stout, and Mike Hollingsworth.
The Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah. A Viewing will be held prior from 10:00 - 10:40 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Idaho Cemetery.
Gerald's legacy of love, hard work, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
