In Memory

Cornelia Crane (Butterfield) - Class of 1926

On Monday, January 28, 2002 in Ogden, UT. our mother, grandmother, and friend, Cornelia Jane Crane Butterfield, took the waiting hand of her beloved Ralph and stepped with him into eternity.

She had waited anxiously for this joyous event since his passing, Nov. 2, 1997.

Cornelia was born May 6, 1907 in Bennington, Idaho. She married Thomas Ralph Butterfield on June 3, 1931. Cornelia was the sole surviving child of James George and Sarah Jane Butterfield Crane, having been preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, Art, Laura, Nettie, Cy, Hon, Lizzie, George, Alice, Maude, Bill, Seth, and Nat. Also preceded in death by son, Frederick Bowlden Butterfield and grandson, Cole Butterfield.

Cornelia attended schools in Bennington and Montpelier, Idaho and graduated from Jordan High School in the Salt Lake Valley. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served for many years as a teacher in the church and as the president of Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. She served a mission with her husband to Wales from 1976 to 1978. She worked tirelessly as a family genealogist, keeping current family records and researching family lines. She was appreciative of her pioneer ancestry and served many years in leadership positions in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved music and saw that each of her children received music training. She spent her life bringing joy to her family members through her service to them as she celebrated holidays in her unique way, made quilts and other items for each member of the family, and made each feel loved and special. Her legacy of righteousness, compassion and love to others will be carried on in our family. She was a beautiful woman inside and out and will be missed by many. We are grateful to know that she is no longer in pain and is able to see clearly now and walk again.  She is survived by sons Warren (Jean) Butterfield, Denison, TX; and Seth (Jane) Butterfield, Ogden, UT; daughters Ann (ElRay) Bridges, Cowley, WY; Ralphene (Cliff) Gann, Kuna, ID; Helen (Gary) Parke, Centerville, UT; daughter-in-law Sylvia D. Butterfield, Mount Pleasant, UT; 38 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2nd at 10:00 at the Waterloo Ward Chapel, 1623 South 500 East, Salt Lake City. Viewing will be Friday, February 1st from6 to 8 p.m. at the Colonial Mortuary, 2128 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah (parking is behind the building) and one hour prior to services at the church. The family wishes to express their appreciation and love to the many friends, neighbors, and care givers who have helped Cornelia and meant so much to her.
