Genella Ream (Coop) - Class of 1957

Genella Mae (Ream) “Sami” Coop left her earthly home in San Antonio, Texas on May 27, 2022. She was 82. Born in Oakland, California on November 17, 1939, Genella was raised on a farm in Dingle, Idaho by her adoptive parents Kenneth Ream and Ruth Quale Ream and her brother Durward Ream. In 1957 she graduated from Montpelier High School and attended San Mateo Junior College and Utah State University. Genella had a strong work ethic and enjoyed mastering difficult things. Her employment choices took her from the mountain west to destinations all over the United States. She drove semi-trucks, sold real estate, managed a doctor’s office and was an AM radio DJ in Montpelier, Idaho.  Her work as a semi-truck driver brought her to the icy roads of the Alaskan north slope delivering equipment and supplies to build oil-rigging islands. She loved geology and was a tour guide to many visitors to Alaska. When her work took her to Nevada driving a water truck for a road construction crew, Genella helped save a farm from wildfires. Genella was active in the community, supporting conservative causes, volunteering her skills to run food bank operations in Reno, and befriended, encouraged and assisted many newly arrived immigrants in their path to citizenship. She loved animals, especially horses, rescued many dogs, including her little Chico—she claimed they rescued her. She had a great fondness for music and loved to dance. She was a master gardener who knew the names of flowers and plants and could grow anything she set her mind to. She was well-read and was full of knowledge and life.  Genella was preceded in death by her adoptive parents Kenneth Ream and Ruth Ream, as well as her birth mother Emma Shubin and birth father Harry Rautert. Genella is survived by her brother Durward Ream with whom she was raised in Idaho, Ralph Fellows, Larissa Cozza and Percy Fellows, whom she discovered late in life, her three children Michael Nash (Dannine), Sarah Nash and Sabina Childers. She also has nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Genella was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed dearly.
