Laura Jean Gubler (Taylor Ferguson) - Class of 1950

Laura Jean Gubler Taylor Ferguson 91 passed away February 17, 2024 in Montpelier, Idaho with a loving family by her side. Laura was born on July 10, 1932, in Montpelier, Idaho to her parents Ervin Christian Gubler and Inez Charlotte Pugmire. Aunt Minn and Grandmother Charlotte Hunter were there to welcome sweet baby Laura into this earth bottom first as her father Ervin was trying to find the Doctor.

Laura was raised in Bennington, Idaho. Laura moved with her family to Afton, Wyoming, as well as Boise, Idaho but ultimately made it back to Montpelier, Idaho and attended Montpelier High School. Laura loved the Bear Lake Valley; it was always her home.

Laura had three sons, Charles Farnsworth, Guy Farnsworth, and Joel Farnsworth. Laura was a devoted Mother to her boys as well as a devoted daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Laura was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Laura was a primary teacher and a visiting teacher. Laura loved the scriptures and became a scriptorian. She served a two-year service mission for the church for Deseret Industries in St. George, Utah.

Laura was a talented woman as well as a savvy business woman. She was a beautiful sketch artist, she loved riding horses, she had a beautiful voice and a talent for playing the piano. She was a spitfire and loved to drive fast cars. She was a fashion model and actress. Laura got her associates degree at the University of Utah. She was so caring, kind, giving, quick witted and funny. She was a driven entrepreneur who owned many businesses. Laura was the host of two radio shows based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the first woman to run for Governor of the State of Utah in 1984 against Governor Bangerter. She was the first woman to become the head of the Republican Party in Utah.

Laura loved her family with all of her heart, and they loved her. We will miss her.

Laura is survived by her son; Charles Farnsworth; siblings, Atheleen Rasmussen, DeEtte Bastian, Julie (Lou) Williams, Larry (June) Taylor, Loy (Bonnie) Taylor; grandchildren, Cherie Raeth, Kaylynn Hunt, Melisa Farnsworth, Mason Farnsworth (Kelsey Barry), Jeremy Frandsen, Joel FarnsworthJr. and Jeff Farnsworth; great grandchildren, Aidan Lindholm, McKenna Frandsen, and Amberly Frandsen. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin (Mary)Gubler, Inez (Delbert) Taylor; sons, Guy Farnsworth, Joel Farnsworth; sister Sherrie Gubler; brother Frank Taylor; brothers in law, Gary Rasmussen, Richard Bastian.

We would like to thank the caretakers at Bear Lake skilled nursing for providing loving care to Laura.

Funeral Service for Laura will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 East Bengal Blvd (7800 South), Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held at the mortuary from 12:30 until the time of the service. Interment will follow in the Memorial Mountain View Cemetery.
