Melba Clark (May) - Class of 1935

 

Melba Clark May, passed away peacefully March 2, 2018, in Henderson. She was born May 27, 1917, in Montpelier, Idaho, the first of four children born to William O. Clark and Myrtle Annie Dalrymple. Melba loved growing up around Bear Lake. She graduated as valedictorian from Montpelier High School in 1935. Her family then moved to Provo, Utah where she attended Brigham Young University graduating with a degree in business in 1941. While at BYU she met and married, Chester Harris May, of Rupert, Idaho. They were married February 19, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple and were married for 56 years. In 1946, they settled in Denver, Colorado where they raised two daughters, Susan May and Brenda (Randall) Weed. They moved to Aurora, Colorado in 1952, where they opened the Deb 'n Heir Children's Store which they owned for 10 years. Melba also worked at Farmers & Merchants Bank in Provo, Utah, H & R Block and as a secretary at the U.S. Air Force Accounting and Finance Center in Denver. She loved to read, sew, handiwork, play golf, as well as playing the piano and organ. She loved Colorado and many outdoor activities and thoroughly enjoyed her association with many wonderful friends through her bridge club. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in various callings but music was her love. She served as a ward organist for over 30 years and played at many weddings, funerals and at the Denver Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; her infant son; her parents; and her brother, Roger O. Clark. Melba is survived by her two daughters; one son-in-law; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Marrial Clark Konvicka, of Salt Lake City and Doris Clark Cranmer, of West Jordan, Utah, all of whom she loved dearly. Service were held in Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at give.lds.org/pef.
