Thomas Hooker - Class of 1947

Thomas Myrl Hooker 81, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011 in Provo, Utah.  Tom will be remembered as a man filled with love and kindness for all.  He leaves Joyce, his wife of 56 years along with four children and 17 grandchildren.  Tom was born June 23, 1929 in Downey, Idaho to Myrl and Elizabeth Burton Hooker.  He served a mission for the LDS Church in France and Belgium from 1949 to 1952.  Upon his return he attended and graduated from the University of Idaho  While there he fell in love with Joyce Sumsion.  They were married April 16, 1954 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  He became an officer in the US Air Force and served in Vietnam.  He received many military honors including the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.  He retired from the Air Force after 21 years and settled in Provo, Utah.  He served as a bishop, branch president and member of the stake presidency and many other church callings.  His funeral was conducted in the Edgemont 2nd Ward Chapel and interment in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo.
