Nelda Peterson (Parsons) - Class of 1939

Nelda May Peterson Parsons, 95, passed away peacefully at Legacy Homes in Thayne on March 31, 2015. Nelda was born Nov. 2, 1919 in Bern, Idaho, the first child of Joseph Lee and Frances May Rigby Peterson. She spent her childhood in the beautiful Tygee Idaho Valley, with her seven siblings. She attended school in the one room schoolhouse in Auburn and graduated from high school and seminary in Montpelier, Idaho. Nelda’s employment included the Valleon Hotel, Ogden Arsenal, Star Valley Independent, and Pitts Aerobatics as an executive secretary. She married Karol Parsons on March 17, 1944 in the Logan LDS Temple. After living in an apartment at the Valleon, Karol built them a home north of Afton, where they welcomed seven children. After retirement, Nelda relished having more time for interests such as crocheting, knitting, music, dancing, family history, and attending outreach classes. She enjoyed attending community events and especially those involving her family members. Her hobbies included cooking, fishing, and camping with family and friends. She delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Karol and Nelda served a one-year mission for the LDS Church at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City. Nelda survived Colon Cancer in the early 1990s. Karol passed away in March 2005. Nelda remained in their home until 2010 when declining health required a change. She resided in Legacy homes until her passing. Nelda had an unwavering love and appreciation for and faith in, her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and a firm testimony of the gospel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous church callings over her life, always giving full effort in those callings and feeling great love for those she worked with, in every capacity. She had a deep love for temple work and missed being able to travel to the temple in her later years. Preceding her in death were her husband, Karol; infant son, Merlin; and daughter, Karon Poore; parents, Lee and May Peterson; sisters Dorothy Peterson and Jean Hoopes; and brother, Bruce. She is survived by her children: Walt (Pam); Nyla (Randy Miller); Lyndon (Nola); Maxine (Tim McPherson); and Teryl (Cammy); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Duane; Carma Carver; Verlene Danielon; and Marla Anderson.
