James Dunn - Class of 1951

James Morton Dunn, 65, died on Wednesday, September 2, 1998, of cancer at his home in Montpelier. He was born Aug. 18, 1933 in Bennington to James Rowel Dunn and Lois Winnifred Kearl. He attended schools in Bennington and Montpelier. He married Marion Weaver but they were later divorced. He married Barbara Jean Smith, Nov. 6, 1987, in Bennington.

He had worked for the railroad and for a coal mine in Wyoming, but he spent 20 years in the US Army and retired from there.

James is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Montpelier; two sons, Michael Rowel (Patricia) Dunn of Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca. and James Wilber (Tammy) Dunn of Idaho Falls; five brothers, Harvey Kearl Dunn of Ogden, Larry West (Camille) Dunn of Lewiston, Ut., Alvero Moffat (Shirley Sue) Dunn of Bennington, Shirley Dunn of Layton, Ut. and Clinton Ralph (MaryLou) Dunn of Dayton, Id.; two sisters, Lois (Arlen) Long of Salt Lake City and Eyvonne (Dennis) Long of Clearfield, Ut.; a sister-in-law, Imogene Dunn of Bennington; six stepchildren, Wanda J.S. Dunn of Bennington, Gwen (Larry) Nichols of Appleton City, Mo., Richard Mathias Smith of Montpelier, Rodney (Amber) Smith of North Ogden, Terry (Rhonda) Smith of Tucson, Az. and Jana Lee Smith of Spokane, Wa.; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Katherine, a brother, Richard J., a stepdaughter, Cheryl Rigby, a stepson, H. Michael Smith and a step-great-grand-daughter, Morgan Smith. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 5, in the Montpelier Fourth Ward chapel. Burial was in the Bennington Cemetery.
