Earl Wilcox - Class of 1938

 Earl R. Wilcox, 60, Blackfoot, was dead on arrival at Bingham Memorial Hospital Monday, August 6, 1979 following an apparent heart attack. He was born March 2, 1919, in Montpelier, to Arthur and Adelia Wilcox. He spent his early years in Montpelier, receiving his schooling there and graduating from Montpelier HIgh School in 1938. He married Donna Robison June 17, 1941 in Las Vegas.The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple September 10, 1943.  From 1937 to 1940 he was employed in construction in Yellowstone Park. In 1940 he accepted employment with Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman. June 30, 1944, Wilcox was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Phillipines and Japan and was discharged a sergeant in 1946. After his discharge he returned to his employment with Union Pacific, first as a fireman and then as a locomotive engineer. He was a member of the engineers' local union. He moved to Blackfoot in 1972. An active member of the LDS Church, he served as elder's quorum president and as bishop of the Montpelier Fifth Ward, and was currently serving as assistant ward clerk. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and horseback riding. He is survived by his wife, Blackfoot; five daughters, Marie Wilcox, Mrs. Eric (Beverly) Erickson, and Arlene Wilcox, all Salt Lake City, and Lois Wilcox and Cheryl Wilcox, both Blackfoot; six grandchildren; his mother, Montpelier; two brothers, Donald Wilcox, Fullerton, Calif., and Glenn Wilcox, Pocatello; and one sister, Nell Wilcox, Montpelier. He was preceded in death by a son, Russell Earl Wilcox, brothers, Vern, Warren and Elwood, and a sister, Norma. Funeral services were held August 9 at 10 a.m. in the Blackfoot LDS Sixth Ward Chapel, with Bishop Wilson R. Armstrong officiating. Burial was in Montpelier Cemetery, where graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday.
