Robert Moldenhauer - Class of 1943

Robert Morris Moldenhauer, 83, of Blackfoot passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello. He was born July 22, 1924, in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, the son of Lewis Gustav and Mona Emily Morrison Moldenhauer. Bob grew up in Montpelier, Idaho, and moved to Pocatello just shortly before he entered military service. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1943, lettering in track and football. He served during WWII as a Marine, guarding prisoners of war as they were transported across seas. He made 23 crossings. On April 20, 1946, he married Lola Dee Olson. She preceded him in death on August 13, 1964. While working at the Idaho Bank and Trust in Blackfoot. he met BernaDean Jones Harward, and they married on August 12, 1965. They have resided in Blackfoot since then, spending 23 winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona, once they both retired. 

Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also belonged to the American Legion and Lions Club where he served as president. He worked as a banker for First Security for many years in Pocatello, Nampa, Grandview and for Idaho Bank and Trust in Blackfoot. In 1967 he bought Ralph's Book Store and changed the name to M&H Office Supply. He worked there until 1984, retiring two days after his son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Dawn Moldenhauer, bought the business. Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing, going on drives, watching and filming his grandkids' events. 

He is survived by his wife, BernaDean of Blackfoot; children, Patricia Hollingshaus of Wilmington, Delaware, Phillip S. (Patricia) Harward of LaRochelle, France, Cathleen (Ted) Davidson of Salt Lake City, Utah, DeEtte (Art) Edgson of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Rocky (Dawn) Moldenhauer of Blackfoot, Michael (Nancy) Harward of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Julia Kay Tumanuvao of Orem, Utah; one brother, H. James Moldenhauer of Pocatello; thirty-six grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and two on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Christine Elison, brothers, Lewis, Lloyd, Arthur and Ernest Moldenhauer and sisters, Bertie Griggs and Florence Orchard.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the Blackfoot 6th Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Eric Scott conducting. The family will meet with friends on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery in Pocatello.
