Tom Burgoyne - Class of 1939

Tom L. Burgoyne, 52, died suddenly of a heart attack on March 29 at his home.  A son of the late Eugene Olof Burgoyne and Marie Cook Burgoyne, he was born July 21, 1920 in Montpelier where he spent his youth graduating from Montpelier High School in 1939.  Mr. Burgoyne and Nedra Bruce were married August 16, 1941 at Soda Springs and the ceremony was solemnized July 23, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple.  After living in Idaho Falls a short while, the family moved to Salt Lake City before returning to Montpelier January 1, 1959.  Mr. Burgoyne learned accounting at the night school at LDS Business College.  He was employed as an accountant by Remington Arms Co. during World War II and later became a special agent for an insurance company.  He had been with Bear Lake Motor Company for the past 10 years.  Active in civic and church affairs he was president of the Lions Club 1971-2.  He was active in raising funds for installation of a scoreboard at the athletic field and other activities.  He worked on a promotional presentation of scenic and recreational attractions and other community projects.  He was a member of the LDS Church serving as Priesthood secretary, president of the YMMIA and Eighth Quorum of Elders.  He was also treasurer of the Bear Lake Chapter of American National Red Cross.  Survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and a granddaughter.  Funeral services were held in the Montpelier LDS Third-Fifth Ward Chapel.  Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
